What is Manhwa?
Korean comics — usually full-colour, read top-to-bottom as webtoons.
Manhwa (만화) is the Korean word for comics. In English it almost always refers to Korean webtoons: full-colour, published a chapter at a time, and designed to be read by scrolling vertically on a phone rather than flipping pages.
That vertical, full-colour format is the biggest day-to-day difference from Japanese manga, which is typically black-and-white and read right-to-left. Manhwa also leans hard into a few wildly popular genres — action-fantasy, regression revenge, murim, and romance-fantasy among them.
Famous examples include Solo Leveling, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, and The Beginning After the End.
